Thank you for your interest in applying for the 2009 Korean Canadian Science Scholarship Foundation (KCSSF) awards. Enclosed is the 2009 Award Information Package.

Amount of each award: $3,000 @ 1 (SK Scholarship in Life Science)

$2,000 @ 1 (MOGAM Science Scholarship Foundation

Requirements:

a. Must be a Canadian citizen of a landed immigrant with Korean heritage.

b. Must be enrolled as a full-time student majoring science or engineering in 2008/2009 academic year and must have completed at least two full academic years in a post secondary education institution (e.g., university, college) in Canada and able to submit proof of registration prior to receipt of scholarship, if awarded.

Please read carefully. Incomplete applications will not be processed. Your application cannot be considered unless all forms are completed and returned to the KCSSF by the filing deadline above. Application must be submitted directly to the KCSSF.

Scholarship recipients will be selected and notified by September 18, 2009. Recipients of the scholarship call from the scholarship committee. Scholarship monies will be credited to the recipient’s account to be used to offset educational expenses.

2009 AWARD INFORMATION PACKAGE

Please read the following information carefully and follow all instructions. Any deviation will result in default and elimination of eligibility.

1. APPLICATION PACKAGE

a. Official application form must be used.

b. Resume.

c. Personal statement

l Prepare a personal statement of at least 250 words based on the following topic: “What are the most important qualities needed to be a successful Scientist or Engineer? How would a college education help you to become successful in this field?”

d. Must provide official transcripts for the academic years 2007-2008 and 2008-2009 from all former and current post-secondary institutions (whether or not a degree was granted).

l Each envelope must be sealed and signed by the issuing institution.

l DO NOT open the envelopes.

l Transcripts received in an unsealed envelope are not official.

l Enclose the transcripts with the scholarship application.

e. Tow reference letters (one from school and one from work or volunteer/leadership organization) are required from people that have direct knowledge of your character, ability, attitude, potential and aspiration. References should exclude and signed envelopes.

l Enclose the letters with the scholarship application.

f. Upon being selected to receive an award, recipients are required to submit two photographs (passport size but not necessarily passport photos) taken within the past six months. Photographs are used for record and promotional purposes.

3. SELECTION PROCESS

a. Application and all supporting documentation must be postmarked on or earlier of September 11, 2009.

b. Evaluation criteria are:

l Community Services & Extra-curricular/Leadership activities

l References

l Personal statement

Successful applicants must receive balanced scores from all four areas.
