여름방학을 하면서 아이들 데리고 야외로 나갈 때 시간이 있으면 U-Pick 농장에 들려 싱싱한 과일과 야채를 저렴한 가격에 구입을 하는 것도 좋습니다.

U-Pick Farm 은 과일이나 야채를 추수하는 인건비를 아끼기 위하여 농장에서 사람들에게 직접 밭에서 과일이나 야채를 따오게 하는대신 가격을 저렴하게 파는 농장을 말합니다. 보통 사전에 농장방문시간을 전화로 예약을 해야 하는 곳도 있고 인터넷에 농장 개장시간을 올려놓기도 합니다. 도회지 근처 유명 농장은 사람들이 많이 오다보니 생각보다 가격이 싸지않는 경우도 있으니 가기 전에 전화를 하여 가격이 얼마인지 알아보세요.

위니펙 남부에 있는 한 U-Pick 농장을 설명한 글을 보니 딸기 4리터(큰 아이스크림통 하나 가득)의 가격이 $9 이라고 하네요. 또 4리터 10통을 사면 1통은 공짜하고 하네요. ^^ 자세한 것은 아래 농장 목록을 참고하세요.

다음은 위니펙 프리 프레스에서 가져온 것인데, 딸기 DIP(dip 뜻: 액체 따위에 살짝 담그다) 요리법입니다.

Strawberries and dip

This light and lemony sour cream-based dip is wonderful for strawberries but is also great for other fresh fruits, as well. Beautiful food is appealing to everyone, but carefully prepared fresh fruits are even more so for children. We want them to eat lots of fresh fruit (and vegetables) but when they're small, being presented with a whole apple or orange can be a little daunting. I've seen it time and time again, with my own kids and other folks', sliced fruit arranged on a platter will be inhaled in a flash. Add this delicious dip and no one, not even the adults, will miss chips and other junk in front of the television or at snack time.

Plenty of fresh strawberries, rinsed, leaves removed, larger ones sliced in half.

5 ml (1 tsp) fresh lemon juice
5 ml (1 tsp) grated lemon peel
up to 125 ml (1/2 cup) icing sugar (this dissolves most easily)
250 ml (1 cup) sour cream (fat-free works just fine)

In a medium-sized bowl, combine the lemon juice, grated lemon peel and icing sugar and stir to dissolve the sugar. Add the sour cream and mix thoroughly. Taste for sweetness and add more sugar or lemon juice as desired, mixing thoroughly. Transfer to small serving dish and chill for 15 to 20 minutes before serving with fresh fruit. Fruit and dip can also be served with "fingers" of sponge cake for dipping as a dessert. Can easily be doubled or halved. Yields 250 ml (1 cup) of dip.
