지난 월요일에 위니펙시장 Sam Katz 가 2010년도 위니펙시 예산을 발표했습니다. 2010년도 위니펙시 예산은 2009년($476 million)보다 $46 million 줄어든 $430.6 million 입니다.

'New' projects
Assiniboine Park
$2.8 million in 2010 to help build the Assiniboine Park Conservancy's new facilities in Winnipeg's largest park and planning parts of the park's $180-million makeover, plus $5 million for immediate infrastructure repairs.
Waverley West roads
$51.3 million in 2009 to extend Kenaston Boulevard south to the Perimeter, build a partial cloverleaf at Kenaston and Bishop Grandin Boulevard and add lanes to Waverley Street and realign Waverley to make room for the expected growth in southwest Winnipeg. Announced by all three levels of government in September.
Bike-and-pedestrian paths
$20.4 million in 2010 on 102 kilometres of cycling routes in 2010 -- about eight times what the city normally spends on trails each year. Announced in September.

$7.6 million in 2010 to rehabilitate the ramp over Pembina Highway.

There's no money in the budget in 2010 to widen Kenaston Boulevard between Taylor Avenue and Ness Avenue, as the project has been delayed for years. The actual cost won't be determined until council approves a widening plan, which has been complicated by Ottawa's inability to sell or redevelop the Kapyong Barracks land.
Bus rapid transit
Phase Two of Winnipeg's southwest bus corridor -- a six-kilometre, $189-million connection busway that will connect Jubilee Avenue -- does not appear in the six-year budget forecast, even though it's supposed to be completed by 2014.
Police headquarters
The city's proposed $30-million purchase of the Canada Post building and subsequent $105-million refurbishment for use as a new "mega Public Safety Building" does not appear explicitly in the capital budget, as the plan still faces council approval on Nov. 25.

There's no cash in the budget for the purchase of a police 'copter, despite Mayor Sam Katz's desire to buy a whirlybird.

위니펙 시예산을 보니 한국 교민분들이 많이 사는 지역인 Keneston Blvd. 의 남쪽 끝을 Perimeter Hwy. 까지 연결하는 예산이 눈에 들어오는군요. 아마 길이 새로 나면 새 주택단지인 Waverley West 지역뿐만 아니라 주변 지역인 Whyte Ridge, Rinden Ridge, Rinden Woods, Tuxedo 지역의 교통이 많이 편리해지겠습니다.
다만 위니펙 다운타운에서 매니토바 주립대까지 빠른 대중교통 수단을 제공해 주길 바랬던 the southwest rapid-transit corridor 프로젝트가 예산에서 제외됐다니 그 쪽으로 출퇴근을 하는 분들은 여전히 교통정체에 시달려야 할 것으로 보입니다.
