DIFFICULTY: Novice.
REQUIRED: 6-RSVP Participants; Water (Insulated).
RECOMMENDED: Head/neck wear; Gloves; Change of shirt for ride home.
OPTIONAL: Hiking poles (available onsite); Home Shuttle Service ($0.50 KM out of the way; on the way FREE).
We will meet around 1 PM on Churchill Drive, and then hike at 1:15 PM.
POINTS OF INTEREST:
The site of the former Swift Canadian Packing Plant on the banks of the Red River in Elmwood was donated to the city at the end of the war in the 1950s. What remained of the old River Park site was Churchill Drive Park with the vision to become a demonstration garden where trees, shrubs, and herbaceous plants are cultivated for scientific and educational purposes. The Red River is very young as it developed 9,500 years ago after the Ancient Glacial Lake Agassiz drained at the end of the last ice age.
