Thank you for your coordinating assistance for the teleconference call, as well for your on-going assistance in forwarding this email to all the participants of the Oct. 24 discussion:
1. Senator’s update of current Parliamentary Session
• I am currently part of 3 committees. You can follow current studies by going to our Senate website (http://yonahmartin.sencanada.ca) and going to the committee sites (click on the icon at the bottom of the homepage):
» Human Rights
» Social Affairs, Science and Technology
» Transport and Communications
• I have met the new Canadian Ambassador to Korea (David Chatterson) and the new Korean Ambassador to Canada (Joo-Hong Nam), and am pleased to report that both new Ambassadors are eager to engage stakeholders and deepen Canada-Korea ties.
2. Community Priorities: 2012 Calendar, Greeting letters, Specific community files
• Please send to my Executive Assistant Grace Seear, top 2-3 events for 2012 for our office to consider in our planning:
» I will aim to attend 1 or 2 events
• Plan to do 1 face to face meeting with Community Advisors, and organize 2-3 teleconferences per year
• National teleconference (2 people per city) will be scheduled before the end of 2011
3. Please find attached the request forms for Prime Minister’s greeting and our greeting. Both requests need to be submitted 3 weeks prior to the actual event.
4. MP’s offices are the best route to resolve/inquire about specific files (i.e. Immigration). However, our office can work as a “spot light” to get additional information or to make further inquiries.
5. National Priorities:
• Parliamentary Internship:
» Jan-Mar call for submissions and selection
» April-Aug training
» Sept-Dec Ottawa Internship **Revised packages will be sent in the coming weeks**
• Korean War Veterans. fundraising and initiatives
• Proposal to make 2013 Year of Korea. Details pending
• Proposal: to make July 27th National Korean War Veterans Day - International Korean War Veterans day. Details pending.
